Meringue Kisses – crisp meringue shell with a soft chewy centre ❤
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I know it’s not quite valentines just yet, so you still have plenty of time to make this super cute and tasty meringue kisses. Handmade gifts are so special and these are no exception – the perfect gift for a foodie, or anyone really!
Meringues are so simple to make – with only 3 ingredients you probably have everything you need to make them already! They do take a little extra time and care when preparing and baking them but it’s so worth it. They have a great crispy crunch on the outside with a soft chewy centre, they’re everything a meringue should be – YUM!
These sweet and cute kisses are flavoured with almond extract and taste super yummy – and because they’re so small you can definitely eat at least 2, 3, 4 … 5 … or more at once! You can flavour the meringue with whatever you prefer, vanilla, coffee, rose or peppermint all work really well.
Recipe based on James Morton’s recipe.
4 large egg whites
200g caster sugaar
1tsp almond extract
3tbsp icing sugar
3 drops of pink food colouring gel
Preheat the oven to 100C (fan).
1 – Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
2 – Whilst still whisking add the sugar 1tbsp at a time to enable the sugar to be fully incorporated. Keep whisking for 2 minutes after the last of the sugar has been added.
3 – Add in the almond extract and whisk for another minute. Fill a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle with the meringue mix. Pipe onto a prepared baking sheet lined with greaseproof paper. Pipe small kisses – the mix should make around 40.
4 – Bake for 1 hour – keep an eye on them and if they start to colour turn the oven down to its lowest setting.
5 – Mix all the ingredients for the decoration together and drizzle over the cooled meringue kisses ❤
